Formed in 2019, Wavy Trees fuse hard rock riffs with a garage-punk attitude that’s equally fun-loving and soul-searching. Their latest single, “Nothing But You,” captures that spirit perfectly — and it comes with a nostalgic 3D animated PlayStation 1-style music video to match.

A Love Letter to Love Itself

Zack, the band’s frontman, explained that the song was inspired by the feeling of being in love but also constantly falling for everyone they meet while traveling.

Zack adds, “Nothing But You” is about loving someone more than anything but also falling in love with everyone you meet. I’m the type of person who falls in love every day, and this was written with both no one in particular and everyone I’ve ever loved in mind.”

It’s a feeling many of us can relate to — that wild, chaotic, beautiful rush of connection, even if it leaves a little wreckage in its wake. Written with both “no one in particular and everyone I’ve ever loved in mind,” Zack says, the track channels a universal, messy, and very human kind of affection.

Levelling Up with a Retro Twist

As if the song itself weren’t enough, Wavy Trees teamed up with Jason — who moonlights as a creative genius behind the scenes, to create a full 3D animated music video in the style of a classic PlayStation 1 game. “That was all Jaybird,” Zack says. “He’s the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) and one of the most creative people I’ve ever met in my life.”

This release certainly came with it’s challenges. Lots of sleepless nights, endless screen time, and juggling multiple jobs made it a true labor of love.

“Hours of not sleeping and staring into a screen till Jason’s eyes bled,” the band joked in an interview with Switching Styles.

The process wasn’t easy, but the result is a nostalgic, pixelated visual feast that perfectly matches the track’s dreamy vibe.
