That’s exactly what Afterglow LARP did with their Ricky Rockets Episode. At the heart of many LARP games are modules or episodes. These are adventures or scenarios designed by the Afterglow plot team that guide the direction of the story. Modules can range from political intrigues in a fantasy court to monster-hunting missions in a dark forest, or even a slightly sketchy family-friendly diner in the middle of space.

Modules may be written and run by game masters (GMs) or storytellers. They act as both referees and narrators, introducing non-player characters (NPCs), setting scenes, and guiding players through branching story paths. Some modules are one-shots, self-contained adventures, while others are part of an ongoing chronicle that evolves based on players’ actions and choices.

Welcome to Ricky Rockets!

Welcome to Ricky Rockets, a LARP episode through Afterglow. Here, the characters are hired as security guards at a family-friendly diner with a dark secret. By day, Ricky Rockets is a lively diner and arcade, buzzing with the sounds of classic pinball machines and children's laughter. At least, it will be again. Soon. Hopefully.

The place has a new owner, and rumors are flying. Staff and guests alike have noticed strange noises in the vents, animatronics disappearing, and the feeling that something (or someone) is watching.

Ricky Rockets Mod Playlist: Music That Makes or Breaks the Game

That shift between playful nostalgia and creeping horror is what makes Ricky Rockets so immersive. Switching styles is about music, so we’re bringing the music of Afterglow LARP to the readers at SwitchingStyles.ca.

Here’s a playlist that captures the essence of the game:

  • "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" By Aaaah!BBA

  • “Stayin’ Alive” Disco Cover by Vampire Bee Dee Gee’s Hee, Originally by Bee Gees

  • “Luigi’s Mansion Theme” (Video Game Soundtrack) Cover by Lacey Johnson, originally by Kazumi Totaka

  • "This is Halloween" Originally by Danny Elfman, Covered by Lyric Noel

  • “Season Of the Witch” Psychedelic Rock Cover by Lana Del Rey, originally by Donovan

  • “Pet Sematary” (Punk Rock) Cover By Starcrawler, Originally By Ramones

  • “Psycho Killer” Alternative Rock Cover by The Wrecks, Originally by Talking Heads

Without music, Ricky Rockets would just be a spooky diner. With music? It’s an experience.

As a Canadian music platform, we recognize that the arts exist within broader systems shaped by colonial history. Colonial policies and practices deliberately sought to suppress Indigenous cultures, traditions, and songs. We acknowledge this history and its ongoing impacts of colonialism. We are grateful for the opportunity to share music and culture on these lands, and we commit to ongoing learning, accountability, respect, and meaningful action.

We commit to supporting Indigenous voices and ensuring that Indigenous music, stories, and cultures are protected, amplified, and never erased.
