On the other hand, the trumpet produces higher-pitched melodies in orchestras and can also be used for solos in jazz bands. Q & A With Anne Dao Below is an interview between Dylanna Fisher of Switching Styles and the life coach, Anne Dao. We’re diving into her work coaching using music. How did you start your journey to becoming a life coach, and coaching utilizing music? I started my journey as a life coach in 2015. I would say that I am a part-time coach, as I have had many different work experiences. Your background is quite diverse, with a master’s degree in philosophy and experience in various fields. How do these different aspects of your life contribute to your coaching approach? My very diverse background enables me to work with many different types of people. I tend to focus now on clients who have a substantial background themselves. I am currently less focusing on coaching as an activity and more as a writer publishing articles on personal development. Can you share some insights into the type of clients you work with? My clients are usually graduates. They are at a crossroads in their life, where they have reached a certain level of success, but they do not know how and for what precise reasons they should continue what they are doing. Some are wondering what to change in their life. A lot of my clients are questioning themselves about change in their everyday lives, short-term and long-term. I usually help them re-center on their core being. In what ways have you used music to help your clients overcome challenges and navigate their path toward success? Can you provide specific examples or success stories? I have used music with my clients to help them focus on their true desires. I once helped a renowned financial advisor who loved personal development. After the end of the coaching I provided, he wrote me an email in which he expressed his gratitude for the acute help brought about by the coaching. My work helped him to know himself better. He had a much clearer vision of his personality and existence. Are there specific genres or pieces of music that you often recommend to your clients during coaching sessions utilizing music? Yes. I often recommend relaxation music, binaural beats, frequencies, and sometimes spiritual music such as mantra singing. How do you personalize musical suggestions to individual needs and goals? I take into account their personality and their most urgent needs and goals. If the person is very anxious, I recommend relaxing music and singing mantras. In your personal life, how does music play a role in maintaining your balance and focus? Are there specific music rituals or practices that you follow? I rarely, if ever, listen to dark or violent music. I am very careful about what type of music I listen to. In general, I like to sing. I sometimes sing jazz, gospel, and spiritual music and particularly enjoy singing mantras. What are your all-time favourite tunes, and how have they impacted your life or coaching style? I especially like infinite hertz music. It operates an immediate cleansing of the brain and immediate relaxation that is extremely efficient, especially if you work with the law of attraction or the art of manifesting. This type of music is extremely helpful and has greatly impacted both my life and my coaching style. It opens the doors of perception, so personal growth work is made much easier. For the readers of Switching Styles seeking to improve their lives, what advice do you have on incorporating music into their journeys and pursuing personal and professional success? Be careful and choose wisely the music you are listening to. It has deep effects on your body, mind, and spirit. Choose your music according to your goals. There is a lot of music for meditation, for example. This state of meditation will help you gain many skills that are essential on your path to personal and professional success. Is there anything else you want to add that I haven’t asked about? Expressing yourself is as important as listening or absorbing personal development tools such as music. That is why I recommend singing spiritual music, or music in general, or writing songs. Pancake Day, known as Shrove Tuesday in the UK, Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is celebrated before Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which is 40 days of fasting that Christians observe before Easter. The tradition of Pancake Day originated from the practical need to use perishable ingredients such as eggs, butter, and milk before the Lenten fasting period began. Families, particularly in England and Ireland, started making and indulging in many pancakes to ensure no ingredients were wasted. Pancake Day is more than just a meal; it celebrates history, culture, and community. Unveiling The Layers of Pancakes Pancakes – the name evokes images of golden-brown, fluffy delights sizzling on a hot grill. Although the modern perception of pancakes centres on a breakfast treat, the roots of this beloved dish go deep into the annals of history, spanning over 30,000 years. The journey of pancakes takes us back to the Stone Age, making them possibly the oldest breakfast food in history. Remarkably, evidence of pancakes has been found in the stomach of Otzi the Iceman, whose remains date back approximately 5,300 years. The term “pancake” itself debuted in Middle English during the 15th century, but the concept and variations of this dish have been present in various cultures throughout history. Ancient Greeks and Romans crafted their version of pancakes, known as Alita Dolcia or “another sweet.” These early pancakes were made with wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and curdled milk. Greek poets Cratinus and Magnes immortalized these delectable creations in their poetry, while even the illustrious Shakespeare mentioned them in his timeless plays. Photo by Brigitte Tohm on What are some other names for Pancakes? Pancakes, the timeless breakfast delight, have garnered many names across distinct cultures and regions, adding an extra layer to this beloved culinary creation. Derived from the French word for pancake, crêpes are characterized by their thin and delicate nature, often resembling the unleavened pancakes in the United Kingdom. In some regions, particularly North America and the United Kingdom, the term “flapjack” is used interchangeably with pancake. However, it may refer to a different sweet tray-baked oat bar in specific contexts. The United States popularly refers to pancakes as “hotcakes,” emphasizing their warm and fluffy nature, while Russia brings blini to the table, thin pancakes often served with various toppings. Similarly, blintzes, associated with Jewish cuisine, offer a versatile and delicious take on thin pancakes with sweet or savoury fillings. The term “griddle cake” highlights the cooking method, emphasizing the flat and evenly cooked nature of these breakfast delights. “Slapjack,” a less common term, adds a playful touch to pancake names, with its origin unclear.
