Q&A Between Switching Styles’ Dylanna Fisher And The Band Wavy Trees Wavy Trees is composed of lead vocals/lead guitarist Zack Smith, guitarist Jason Espiritu and bassist Brian Duke. We caught up with Wavy Trees to talk about “Nothing But You,” the making of the song and video, and what’s next for the band. What inspired the creation of your latest single, “Nothing But You”? “ Nothing But You ” was inspired by being in love, but falling in love with everyone I meet when we travel. Also just messing everything up along the way. In what ways does the single build on or differ from your previous releases? This single has a more spacey vibe than our other singles, which I think we will implement in future releases. What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from this track? I want people to feel love through the speakers or headphones!!! Can you walk us through the writing and recording process for the song? The song started with a sample drum Jason had, then I just channeled most of the lyrics, sort of like a freestyle. The dead speak through me. Were there any unexpected challenges or standout moments while working on it? We never sample drums, but we did on this track, and it made life way easier lol. What does your typical songwriting collaboration look like as a band? I usually come up with the basic song idea on an acoustic or with logic, or Jason/Brian will have a riff, and we will just jam & it will all come together naturally mostly. We all have really good chemistry. Is there a particular lyric or section of “Nothing But You” that holds special meaning for you? Probably the “I’m just stupid, I know nothing, I’m never gonna ever figure it out” Because I feel like that on a daily basis, and it felt very authentic, especially to how I was feeling at the time. I don’t know if I will ever figure anything out, so I just ride the wave where it takes me. How did the track evolve from its original demo to the final version we hear today? In our living rooms, do-it-yourself. The PS1-style 3d animated video is such a creative, nostalgic touch—what inspired that direction? That was all Jaybird, our guitar genius. He’s the goat and one of the most creative people I’ve ever met in my life, We are lucky to have him in this band!! What was the process like to achieve that retro visual style? Any challenges along the way? Hours of not sleeping and staring at a screen till Jason’s eyes bled. Then, working 3 jobs in between. DIY  Are there any Easter eggs or hidden nods in the video that fans should keep an eye out for? On the buildings in the music video, there are a bunch of easter eggs. Hahaha – I’ll let you watch them and find out for yourselves! How have fans been responding to “Nothing But You” so far? Honestly, it has been really insane, we’ve, no joke, had people contact us saying we saved their marriage or that the song inspired them to pop the question to get married lol. I honestly love that it’s being spread out, a lot of people say Pandora is how they heard it, which kinda surprises me lol. Are there any upcoming collaborations, projects, or tour plans in store for 2025? We have a couple of crazy collaborations in the works that are gonna be WILD! Ally The Piper – Making Bagpipes Rock One Song At A Time Guest Written  By  Jason Greiner When one thinks of the instrument known as the bagpipes, certain things probably come to mind. You may likely have your thoughts drawn to the cultures of Scotland and Ireland, along with the traditional clothing that goes along with these regions. Perhaps, you may think of the common use in ceremonial practices, often of a sombre nature. But one thing you probably don’t think of is the musical versatility they offer, along with the fact that bagpipes can indeed rock. While I am not musical, I recently decided to try to play the simplest instrument I could think of and settled on the kazoo, My two young nieces have this hilarious fascination with the Ozzy Osborne song “Crazy Train ” and I wanted to search out any versions of this song on the funny little instrument. Somehow, the YouTube search came up with a version done on the bagpipes, and I was blown away. The highly talented musician behind the version goes by the title “Ally The Piper” on her popular channel of the same name. Her YouTube account has more than 750 thousand subscribers and both videos of performances as well as instructions. On the platform TikTok, she has more than 1 million subscribers.  Her official website touts her recent album release in the style she lovingly calls “Celtic-Rock,” And she references her work as being inspired by the genres of rock, metal and pop along with traditional Celtic music.  In addition to the Ozzy classic, Ally has taken on other mega hits of hard rock and metal, including Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird,” among other songs.  Ally, whose real name is Ally Crowley-Duncan, is a native of Schenectady , a small town in upstate New York. Her journey into the world of bagpipes started at the age of 14 as a way to connect with her Scottish roots. Now, at 29, she travels the country and even internationally to play at concerts, halftime shows and non-surprisingly, renaissance fairs.  Her viral explosion started back in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when she began to focus on her TikTok account, and the views and subscribers came rolling in.  And, like many other artists, her fans are very dedicated. One Bandcamp user and Ally supporter, going by the screen name “vanrichtenoh,” posted the following statement on her account: “I saw you live in Columbus this spring and loved your entire show. Your track Follow Through speaks to my soul, and I listen to it almost every day. Thank you for sharing your gift, not only with the bagpipes but your stunningly amazing voice, with the world.”   And just in case that didn’t clue you in, she’s also a gifted vocalist! Dan Vasc’s Heavy Metal Covers Guest Written By Jason Greiner Sure, you might be familiar with the intoxication rendition of “The Sound of Silence” as performed by the band Disturbed that came out some years back. But other than that, you’d be hard-pressed to think of any other songs that fit this bill.  Even the most adamant fans of Heavy Metal would probably not consider the lead vocalists in that genre to be on par with those who would be considered classically talented singers. And, in almost all cases, I would have to agree. The emphasis here is on almost.   If you haven’t heard of Dan Vasc, let me introduce you to the unexpected. Vasc is a YouTube sensation, bringing his extraordinary style and Heavy-Metal vocals to audiences with covers of some of the most famous and beloved songs across a variety of genres.    If I recall accurately, I accidentally came across his video while searching for different versions of the 1980s gem “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” by Belinda Carlisle.  And to say I was blown away would be a massive understatement. I then looked into other tracks re-imagined and redone by this young man originally from Brazil and came across a treasure trove of awesome tunes.    His major recordings include the church hymn “Amazing Grace,” the Celine Dion hit “ My Heart Will Go On ,” a rendition of the incredible song “ The Sound Of Silence ,” Seal’s “ Kiss From A Rose ” and many more.
